Dookie is wildly classed as Green Days‘ very best album, and while I listen to the fast rock melodies, I find it difficult to argue. The CD contains the singles Longview (probably my favorite GD song of all time), Basket case and the repetitive yet never boring When I come around. This is a fast paced album, and the only bad thing about that is it means that you’ve shot though the entire CD before you know it!
One thing I really love about this album is it’s listen-ability… you will find yourself shoving it in the CD player over and over in a sort of habitual manner (must…listen…to…green day…). Most of the songs sound very unique from one another, which adds to it’s variety and longevity. Even with Billie Joes’ “blocked nose” vocals, the songs still sound great.
Longview seems to tell the story of a lonely guy who spends his life in front of the TV and (not) masturbating. Welcome to paradise is a fast (in both instrumental and vocal) song, with some meaningful lyrics. One thing I have noticed happening a lot with modern punk bands is, although the music sounds happy, the lyrics talk of love troubles, feeling down and general world evils.
Nah, you can’t go wrong with Green Day, especially when they produce such great songs as the ones found on Dookie. If you’re a Green Day fan, you will own this CD. If you don’t have it yet, beat yourself severely, then go out and get the damn thing!
