Cocky certainly lives up to it’s somewhat descriptive title… Kid Rock is one cocky, big-headed, ego-centric. But who wouldn’t be? The average super rich “I get paid for doing nothing” popstar, or the average rock musician when interviewed will say “I thank God everyday for being so lucky”. Kid Rock rubs your nose in it!
The self-titled song, Cocky, goes like this: “They say I’m cocky, and I say What? It aint braggin’ motherfucker if ya back it up”. Ha Ha this cracks me up!
When Kid Rock isn’t referring to women as bitches, whores, hoes and using every swear word in the book, talking about all the land he owns, how many bitches he has and how big his bank balance is, the songs on this album are real “foot-tappers”. The swearing goes really well, and the lyrics just roll off the tongue as smoothly as Kid Rock compliments himself. You just want to listen to this album, if not for the catchy single (Forever) but for the hilarious use of the word “M*therf*cker”.
Some of the songs on this album are very different to what the singles suggest. Kid Rock’s voice sometimes sounds like Steve Tyler (From Aerosmith), which is good. Some songs even have more personal, even sentimental meaning. There’s even a little screaming on some songs.
Kid Rock sings about real life. Sure he’s rich, he could have almost any “bitch” he wants and Devil Without a Cause went 10x platinum! But underneath all the media digs and self promotion, Cocky boasts some nice, slow songs. As the lyrics in Forever go “I make punk-rock, and I mix it with the hip-hop… I make southern rock…” Cocky contains a mixture of musical styles and this really holds up well. And it’s notable to mention that Picture is a sort of duet with Sheryl Crow.
Yup. This album lives up to it’s name… I wish I could say I had what this guy has… And one things for sure, you ain’t never met a motherfucker quite like Kid Rock…
