Angry salad – self titled

February 1st 2009 | Posted by admin

I first heard these guys on the Jenny Jones show, where they performed The Milkshake Song live. My first thoughts were “hey, this is kinda good”. So I went to my computer and downloaded the song from Kazaa. After listening a few times, I downloaded Rico, and the bands cover of 99 Red balloons. “Pretty good”, I thought. So I went onto Amazon and ordered the album.

This, I do not regret. This album provides some real modern classics, with some of the greatest lyrics I have heard. Lyrics like “I’ve got a couple of words for the author of the book of love, You never wrote a chapter about this, or maybe there was pages I missed (I’m not that bright)”. Or “I had to get me home in time, in time to tape The Simpsons“. Or even “Freedom’s just another word for watching TV”. Coming to Grips seems to be about a guy that likes a girl, but she “swings the other way” and likes women. Check out this clever lyric:

“She says to me I don’t like boys, I tell her I don’t like them either, she tells me I don’t understand, so I stand there, I stand there, Yeah, I guess I didn’t know, I didn’t know any better, I didn’t know know she might prefer…”

The intro to Scared of highways reminds me of the Alkaline Trio single, Private eye.
Angry Salad provide a combination of soft rock melodies and sensitive lyrics. Some of the songs remind me of a cross between Jimmy Eat World and Weezer. Other’s have a touch of Blink 182 and Bowling for Soup. This ability to compete with some of the biggest bands around today is excellent.

Sadly, Angry Salad are no longer in existence. According to their website, Angry Salad have left the building, and a couple of the band members have formed a new band called Star 64.
If you get the chance, be sure to download a few MP3’s by Angry Salad, they really are a talented band, and the songs they have produced outshine most of the mainstream bands around at the moment.
