Nimrod was released in 1997. It contains 18 tracks (unless you buy the Japanese version that has 19), most songs of which sound quite similar. You’re introduced to the album with the fast, and completely true to life song Nice guys finish last. Most of the songs on this album are fast. But between these punk songs, breaking the speed and slowing the listener down for a while are songs such as Redundant and the acoustic Good Riddance (Time of your life).
Billie Joes voice really adds to the atmosphere created by the album. His voice just feels right for the sound of the music, much like the way Jordans’ voice of New Found Glory fits the music. Other additions to the instrumentation of the music include wind instruments (heard in King for a day) and the mouth organ (heard in Walking alone).
These implements come together very nicely to create a somewhat repetitive, yet strangely varied album that you will find yourself listening to over and over. I recommend this highly, but if you really can’t afford it for any reason (I paid £16, which is more than I expected it to be), there are better Green Day and punk albums to spend your money on.
