Wow. This is what I get for buying an album I judged on two damn good singles. Here’s me, thinking I’m gonna be getting all excited, with blood pumping through my veins at a mega fast dangerous pace… but no. Jimmy eat world album fails to rock you. You see, almost every single song on this album is very, very slow. Some even have female backing vocals!
Before I continue to insult Jimmy Eat World more so, I will gag my demonic ramblings and say to you this: Just because it’s slow, doesn’t mean it is all bad! Sometimes, you feel like slowing the pace a little, and I have to say, this is the perfect album for doing that.
The first track, Bleed American/Salt,sweat,sugar, is the ultimate rock track. It’s excellent. The second single, The Middle, is a classic. Great sounding guitar and excellent vocals. Your house is a little acoustic number, made distinct by it’s repetitive lyric “You rip my heart right out”. Sweetness really sounds so much like a song from the 80’s music scene. If you don’t, don’t is very melodic and romantic. In general, all the songs sound like a heck of a lot of work has gone into them. You can just feel the quality. And since each of the 11 tracks are about 4-5 minutes long, you can find yourself listening for the long haul.
Jimmy Eat World possesses many characteristics that make it a unique experience, and because of this it will definitely appeal to more mature fans of the genre.
