New found glory – nothing gold can stay

Nothing Gold Can Stay kicks off with Hit or Miss. I think that this is most tuneful song on the album, as some of the songs are just a repetitve beat with Jordans voice singing over it. Skipping tracks 2 and 3 (because I don’t think they’re really worth talking about), You’ve got a friend in Pennsylvania is a very good song. It reminds me of an old song, something from the 70’s. I don’t know why.

Apart from some of the songs, in general this album is not very good. Many of the songs sound similar, and stay the same all the way through. I have started listening to a song, then skipped about 1 minute on, and it sounds the same as it did a minute previously. Not a good quality. But fortunately, the songs that do sound different are great. They really brighten up the CD, and to be honest I think this was recognized when the track list was put together because the better songs all seem to be spread across the CD. I guess this adds more variety and keeps you listening.

Moving onto track 10, and slowing things right down. Broken Sound is an emotional song. Jordans voice sounds a little like a radio broadcast, because it seems distorted. I like this song, it is certainly different to other NFG songs. After this, Never Sometimes shows Jordans voice at it’s most annoying level. You will habitually cover your ears when it starts! The final song The goodbye song begins with a nice piano introduction, but soon turns into almost every other song on the album.

All in all, this album is good and bad in equal parts. If you are a bit short of money, go and buy New Found Glory’s newer self-titled album. It’s better.
