Well well well… New Found Glory have released another album. I read a review some time back that said the only thing this album has going for it was the hype surrounding it. Not true. Okay, after weeks of dancing around my living room (ha ha) to My Friends Over You on Kerrang! TV, I finally ordered my copy through “Drive Thru Records”. At first I wasn’t overly impressed… I thought “what the f**k is this?”. In fact, the only song on the album that grabbed me upon first listen was Sonny. What a sweet, nice little song. The lyrics go perfectly and the song is just so great to listen to.
I don’t usually think like this with NFG. One of the bands greatest problems is getting Jordan Pundiks voice to fit in with the music. Sometimes it’s done perfectly, but on most songs it seems like he is just singing over the instruments being bashed.
My Friends Over You is an excellent song to release as a single… simply because it’s probably the best on the album. Dang! Why can’t they all be this good?
I noticed something else about Sticks and Stones… Jordans voice is more calm in some of the songs. Sure, it’s still whiny as hell but he can actually sing well. Musically, the songs are more advanced than previous efforts as well. The songs have more tune and rhythm. All in all, NFG have produced probably their best album to date. But then, anything prior to their last album (self titled) isn’t really worth listening to anyway.
